Scottsdale, Arizona

Last week a few blogger friends and I went on a trip to Scottsdale AZ, and it was {dare I say} one of the top 5 best trips of my life. Along side having visited places like London, cruising on top of the double decker bus, Norway, sailing the sea on an 80 ft. sailboat, and Amsterdam, visiting a world famous coffee shop to try their famous “special” brownies; this trip was definitely up there.

My friend’s and I all met in Scottsdale late Friday afternoon. We took an Uber to our first hotel at Andaz Resort & Spa. If you like boutique style hotels with a resort feel {like me}, you will love this place. Andaz is the epitome of luxury. In fact, it was one of my favorite parts about the trip. We each got our own bungalow rooms with a private deck, front patio with dining under the stars, and the most gorgeous bathroom I think I’ve ever been in. When you look around, the hotel looks as if it’s in the middle of the desert, surrounded by mountains, and I’m smack dab in the middle of an oasis. The views are breathtaking.

Saturday afternoon we headed to the Taliesin West house to take a tour of the infamous Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece. It was exquisite. That evening we went to a 5-star restaurant called Fat Ox, and don’t be fooled by the name, it’s definitely a dressy restaurant. The girls and I joked that the reason it’s called Fat Ox is because you leave feeling like a fat ox by the end of it- the food is that good.

Sunday we had brunch at the Andaz resort restaurant called Weft & Warp Art Bar + Kitchen where we ate our hearts out over the most gorgeous backdrop. Did you guys know that out of 365 days a year, Scottsdale has 330 days of sun? You can basically guarantee that whenever you book, you’ll get sunshine. Then we took a spa afternoon at the Andaz Spa, which, as I’m sure you can imagine from what I’ve already said thus far, was amazing. Around 4pm we departed to our second hotel location, Mountain Shadows.

If you like glam, Mountain Shadows is for you. Having first started in the 1950’s, the property closed in 2004 to do a $100 million renovation and just opened back up in April of this year. The hotel is as luxe as it comes. It has a golf course right outside, close up views of the Scottsdale az mountains, and floor to ceiling windows with a grand bathtub to match. The interior gave me some major inspo!

Unfortunately, I got sick Sunday night so I didn’t end up meeting everyone for dinner at Hearth ’61 for their Champagne Sunday Supper Club {you can already imagine my disappointment}.

As if the trip wasn’t already magical enough, Monday might’ve been my favorite day. We woke up at 5:30am and headed out at 6:30am to take a sunrise hot air balloon ride. One thing I’ve never mentioned on my site before is how terrified I am of heights. It is seriously my worst nightmare {I even get vertigo!} but I knew going into this that I’d be “doing it for the ‘gram!” Despite my major fear, the ride was actually great. As long as I didn’t look down or put my arms outside of the basket, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and my height fright wasn’t bad at all. {Maybe it was the adrenaline}. After our magical ride, we went to lunch at a Mexican restaurant called Diego Pops- their brussel sprout nachos are seriously bomb.com. Finally, we ended the day doing wine tastings, visiting a charming little vintage store called Robert Black, and dinner at the Canal Club- this was my favorite restaurant to be honest. The food, the atmosphere, the staff, all of which were exquisite.

Not only that, but the girls and I seriously had the best time, whether it was the wine or just us, I haven’t laughed that hard in years. I was full on crying all throughout dinner. Your travels depend so much on the company you keep, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group.

Scottsdale had never been on my “must-have” list of places to visit but after this trip, it’s definitely a place I would recommend to anyone and everyone. I’m bummed we didn’t get to explore the hiking part of Arizona {I hear it’s not to be missed} but I’m sure it won’t be my last time. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, girls trip, or somewhere to explore with outdoorsy experiences, Scottsdale should be on your list!
